White Outs ... (Staff Blogs)
Racking up some miles
Even though it may have taken Old Man Winter a while to get here, it's been nice to finally be able to get out on the snow without worrying about rocks and stumps on the trail. And even though the snow depths are quite a bit off from last year, at least we’re riding.
If there is a benefit to the lack of storm clouds (and we're really stretching here to find a benefit), it is that most of our riding days have featured blue skies and great visibility. What a stark contrast to last season where the snow was great but we spent most of our rides in flat light
Although most snowmobilers are just trying to rack up miles on their 2012 snowmobiles, we have been busy finding seat time on some of the 2013 prototypes. In this ever-changing industry, what's new on the snow this year is in the process of being replaced by the new features coming up for next year. Its remarkable how some ever-so-subtle changes can make significant advancements in product performance.
Obviously, we aren't allowed to release information on the 2013s until sometime in March. So for now we will merely encourage you to put as many miles on this year's sled as possible - after all, you do want it worn out by the end of the season so you can justify putting a down payment on next year's exciting stuff.

Snow Fronts ... (Industry Headlines)
Deep Powder Challenge Teaser
Which of the mountain 800 sleds was King of the Mountain this year in SnoWest Magazine's annual Deep Powder Challenge? We could tell you right now but ... we're not that easy. You'll have to wait until the March issue of SnoWest comes out in early March.
Until then, here's some nice footage from one of Deep Powder Challenge rides.
RMSHA Alters Race Schedule
If you were looking forward to a couple of days of hillclimb racing this weekend, well you'll have to wait a bit longer.
The Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association has pushed back its season opener at Montpelier, ID, until Feb. 17-18. The Colorado race was also dropped.
Finally, a website that tells where you can buy ethanol-free gasoline. In the pages of SnoWest Magazine and on www.snowest.com, we've shared time and again the problems ethanol can cause for snowmobiles.
But to find ethanol-free gas, sometimes you had to do a fair amount of sleuthing. Then, a few days ago, someone send us a link to a website that lists gas stations that sell ethanol-free gas.
We did poke around on the website and think it's pretty legit. So we are happy to pass it along: http://pure-gas.org. This statement comes from the website: "Welcome to the definitive list of stations that sell ethanol-free gasoline in the U.S. and Canada. It's growing fast."
Take A Friend, Win Cash
The members of the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (Arctic Cat, BRP, Polaris and Yamaha) join the organized snowmobile community in announcing the Take a Friend Snowmobiling Contest for 2012. State snowmobile association members of the American Council of Snowmobile Association (ACSA) are eligible to win a $5,000 cash prize by sponsoring Take a Friend Snowmobiling activities throughout their states.
Contest events can be held any time between Jan. 1, 2012 and March 31, 2012. The contest forms are self-explanatory and are available on the www.gosnowmobiling.org website. (Just click on the Take a Friend Snowmobiling logo.)
The event was created to support all snowmobile associations of ACSA and their clubs to enhance and expand their partnership with local chambers of commerce, visitor and convention bureaus, snowmobile dealers and other businesses related to the snowmobiling community.
