White Outs ... (Staff Blogs)

Getting Ready For Winter

You could see the bags loaded with snowmobiling accessories go out the door during the Intermountain Snowmobile Show this past weekend in South Jordon, UT. There was a lot of enthusiasm as snowmobilers showed that a slow economy isn't going to slow them down this winter.

The two-day Utah snow show provided a great opportunity for snowmobilers to visit with key industry people about sleds and other products. All four major snowmobile manufacturers had people on hand to answer questions about the new 2012 snowmobile line.

Even one of the radio DJs who was at the site to promote the show got into the action as he purchased a new snowmobile. This shows us that when we expose people to the great sport of snowmobiling, people get converted.

For those who haven't had a chance to attend one of the several shows around the West, plan now to attend the Idaho show which will be held in Boise on Nov. 18-19.

Snowmobile Show Offered Sleds, Sunshine, Lollipops

Okay, the lollipops was bit of a stretch but there was plenty of candy-including suckers-at the various booths at the Intermountain Snowmobile Show in South Jordan, UT, this past weekend.

And we're not just talking candy you could eat. There were all sorts of other eye candy thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts were looking at all Saturday day long. There were new sleds from all the major manufacturers, along with numerous mod sleds, antique and vintage sleds and pieces and parts of sleds spread out throughout the Salt Lake County Events Center. And outside there were a few used sleds looking for a new owner at the swap meet.

ABS Avalanche Pack Assembly

Lori Zacaruk shared this video link with us which shows how an ABS Avalanche Pack is assembled. It's kind of interesting to watch.

Zacaruk said, "Just like risk management on the job site, managing risk in avalanche terrain is a combination of deliberate actions guided by training and experience along with the appropriate level of PPE or safety gear. Many people consider transceivers, shovels and probes as safety tools. In reality these items do not keep you safe ... they only help to minimize a bad situation. Of course, the real objective is to not get caught in the first place."

With athlete pitted against athlete and sled pitted against sled, the captivating event will mark the first-ever time that professional snowmobiling has laid its tracks at the iconic venue in the heart of the major metropolis.
