White Outs ... (Staff Blogs)
Gentlemen, Start Your Engines
The nice thing about being a snowmobiler is that it doesn't require Michelle Obama to tell us to start our engines... this time of year that just comes natural.
Recent storms have left enough snow in higher elevations for the hardcore snowmobiler to officially start their season. You may have to travel a little bit ... and the lower part of the area between trailhead and higher elevation might be a bit sketchy. But if you show just a little patience, there's certain to be enough snow up high to make it worth your time.
Remember, this time of year there are a lot of obstacles that tend to rearrange the front ends of snowmobiles. So show a little respect to the terrain; but from here on out things will only get better. Have a great winter.

This video shows a concept of an all electric powered snowmobile weighing in at under 100kg. It's a students' degree project. Check out www.huskydesign.co.uk.
Red Bull New Year Comeback
A motorcycle and a snowmobile walk into a bar…Well, not quite, but not too different, as a motorcycle and a snowmobile will simultaneously fly over water in the latest installment of Red Bull: New Year. No Limits.
This year will bring together two incredible athletes who have found their way back to the annual New Year's Eve celebration via different paths. The event will air live from San Diego, CA, on Dec. 31 at approximately 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on ESPN, ESPNHD and ESPN3, immediately following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.
Smartphone Bulletins To Curb Avalanche Deaths
Avalanche forecasters hope new smartphone-friendly bulletins—featuring less text and more graphics—will help young, tech-savvy backcountry adventurers make smarter decisions before hitting the slopes.
Parks Canada and the Canadian Avalanche Centre will begin using the new avalanche bulletin format this month.

Klim Powerxross Pullover, Freeride Pant
Klim created the original high-performance, lightweight freeriding pullover in the Powerxross years ago. For 2012 Klim completely redesigned the piece with maximum tree-bashing durability thanks to 500D Cordura overlays on the shoulders and elbows. Integrating Cordura into the exterior of the shell makes it the most durable pullover shell ever. Still boasting unbeatably long-lasting waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex construction and Klim's intelligent ventilation system (full pit zips with a full-length size zipper entry), the all-new Powerxross is sure to keep active riders comfortable and in style all season long.
